Mental Health Symposium

Featuring Greg Oden and Antoine Bethea

This year’s Mental Health Symposium will feature a powerful lineup of panelists, including Greg Oden and Antoine Bethea, to discuss wellness, resilience, and life beyond professional sports.

Greg Oden, former NBA No. 1 draft pick and Lawrence North High School standout, now serves as Director of Player Development at Edyoucore Sports & Entertainment, a firm focused on financial education and mental health for athletes and entertainers. After battling injuries and mental health challenges throughout his career, Oden now uses his platform to educate and empower young athletes with the skills to succeed beyond the game.

Antoine Bethea will also share his journey and experiences supporting youth through mentorship and his foundation work.

Antoine Bethea

Antoine Bethea is a Super Bowl Champion, three-time NFL Pro Bowler, and founder of the SafeHaven Empowerment Center in Newport News, Virginia. Bethea’s commitment to uplifting at-risk youth through education, mentorship, and wellness initiatives has transformed lives and communities.

The SafeHaven Empowerment Center offers academic support, career development, mental health resources, and recreation—all aimed at preparing youth for success. Bethea, a proud Howard University alum and recent inductee into the 2024 Black College Football Hall of Fame, exemplifies the values of service, leadership, and legacy that the Major Taylor Award represents.

Past honorees include icons such as Jackie Joyner-Kersee, Muhammad Ali, Tamika Catchings, and Coach Tony Dungy. To date, Indiana Black Expo has awarded over $5 million in scholarships to Indiana students.
