HISTORY GETS MADE AT THE CLASSIC®
HBCU Marching Bands and The Divine 9 Sororities and Fraternities are deeply rooted in Black Culture.
This year’s Classic will showcase their meticulous performance, showmanship, and commitment to academic excellence. With events including a Battle of the Bands and a Greek Step Show Battle. For a full schedule of events over the two days, please visit our events page.
HBCU BATTLE OF THE BANDS 3:00 PM
Kentucky State University
Mighty Marching Thorobreds
Voted “The 2019 Best Band in the Land” by the national HBCU Awards Committee. The Thorobred Marching Band has performed
- in Mardi Gras Parades in New Orleans (three times)
- St. Louis Gateway Classic (three times)
- Heritage Classic (Columbus, OH)
- Lexington Heritage Classic (Lexington, KY).
- They haves also participated in the Honda All-Star Battle of the Bands.
Miles College
Purple Marching Machine Band
The Purple Marching Machine performs for more than 100,000 people annually.
- Traveled to NYC to perform in the 2002 Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade.
- Performed in Atlanta, Georgia, in the first Historically Black Colleges and Universities Band Extravaganza.
- Selected to perform during half-time at the Inaugural Pioneer Bowl in Atlanta, Georgia.
- Invited to the 2018 Honda Battle of the Bands, our inaugural HBOB showcase.
Talladega College
Great Tornado Band
Talladega College Great Tornado Band band has quite a few accolades of which they are very proud:
- Honda Battle of the Bands
- Queen City Battle of the Bands
- Mardi Gras
- Halftime Performances for the NFL
- Opened up for Frankie Beverly and Maze
- Senior Bowl Halftime Performance
- Presidential Inauguration Parade
We are excited to announce that a total of five bands will be competing. The two additional bands will be announced very soon!
Futures Get a BOOST at The Classic
IBE is committed to assisting Indiana students in their pursuit of higher education. Every year, thanks to proceeds from The Classic, Scholarships are awarded to current high school seniors and students currently enrolled in a post-secondary institution who exhibit outstanding leadership, scholarship, and community service. To date we have awarded nearly $5 million in scholarships to Indiana Students.
